Think your fancy, lifted truck with a winch and high-lift jack will handle anything off-road? Go lay down, sucker. This is how you did it back in the 20's.

Yeah, and then they roll it over to get it back on its wheels.

Hell, back then, everything was off-road because there were no roads.

isn't that technically on-roading. It kinda looks like most of those were "roads" Still pretty bad ass. It would make getting to work every day a bit more fun.

I went to the gym today. there was a stock jeep parked up the side of a snow mound. I'm sure bro-ski thought he looked like a bad ass offroader. Down the lot there was an actual badass offroader jeep. dirty, scraped up, lifted winch all that stuff. he was parked normal. the lot was pretty much empty.

That's true. At least outside the city limits.

Good point. I've seen videos of Model T's doing stuff like that too. Ground clearance, skinny tires and light weight are the ticket.

When you thing about it, the Wrangler is kind of the modern equivalent of these old touring cars from the '10s and '20s. High ground clearance, body on frame, optional running boards, exterior spare tire, open body with fabric side panels, even available as an open 4-door phaeton. At one time, they even offered a RWD version for markets like Florida.

I love seeing how these cars 'lived' back then.

Way back in the 80's I had a girlfriend whose dad had a 1928 Chevrolet tourer, it was unrestored but still road registered. He took me out for a drive in it one day and we went to a river that had 4x4 tracks all through the surrounding bush. I was surprised at how capable it was in the rough tracks and that he would "abuse" it in such a way, when I mentioned this to him he explained that when it was new most roads were just like the tracks we were driving on. It was great fun and if you ever get the chance to do it, do it. Just don't do what I did and lean you arm on the edge of the door, when the body flexed the door gaps would open the close, it really hurts when your skin gets pinched in the gaps as they close.
